Western Wheat Quality Laboratory of the United States Department of Agriculture - Agricultural Research Service. Our mission is threefold: 1) To conduct cooperative investigations with breeders, geneticists and pathologists in the seven western states (Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah and Washington) to evaluate the milling and baking quality characteristics of wheat. Bon Lee, Operations Manager, supervises a staff of wheat and flour technologists at the Wheat Marketing Center. Bon and his team conduct the annual crop quality survey for soft white and hard white wheat, producing the Pacific Northwest Soft White Wheat Quality Report and providing data for the U.S. Wheat Associates Crop Quality Report. The Wheat Outlook: a monthly report that provides supply and use projections for U.S. and global wheat markets based on the most current World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates. The Pacific Northwest Wheat Quality Council (PNW-WQC) will held its annual Collaborative Testing Program meeting in conjunction with the Pacific Northwest Section of the Cereals & Grains. The meeting was held Wednesday, January 28 through Friday, Janu at the Double Tree City Center in Spokane, WA. At NDSU, varieties must meet certain quality parameters before they can be released for commercial production. This analysis is done at the spring wheat and durum quality labs on the NDSU campus. One of the most important marketing tools the commission uses with customers is the annual crop quality survey.
